Chaval asked:

I need to use my Nikon D70s digital slr to photograph oil paintings and other works of art. I do not know much about lighting so I need some assistance and direction in finding the right type of lights and bulbs that would be appropriate for taking quality digital images of paintings.

Thanks so much for your answers!

First, the painting needs to on a flat white or black surface….if inside, hang it on a wall. Do not use direct lighting and if the light is too bright and causing a glare you can put sheer white fabric over or in front of the light to “diffuse” it. You will get the best results from natural light. Do not use flash, use a tripod, zoom in as far as possible, and take LOTS of pics. Good luck! [who] Chelsea

If you have trouble with glare in your images, invest in a polarizing filter for you camera. I find the best light to be indirect natural light. But you can invest in some professional photography studio free standing lights (like tungsten flood lights) if you have to shoot at night or in the studio.

I’d visit this website to find what you need. [who] Carole
