What type of lighting kit should I (beginner photographer) buy for fashion photography?
Nicholas asked:
I just started my venture into learning the art of photography, a goal of mine is to grow into a career of fashion photography at some point! I was wondering what kind of lighting kit would be best to invest in ( i.e Strobe kit, Flood, using umbrella’s soft boxes, etc.)? I’m not looking cheap, but more so something that will last and is of good quality that will produce good quality lighting as a beginner as well as the expert I one day hope to be!

I use two Lowel 750 watt Tota-lights with umbrellas and a background stand for remote or location “studio shoots”
An external flash with Gary Fong diffuser and a 18-200 mm VR lens for runway shoots
D40 with 24-70 mm f/2.8 with external flash for flash fill (with the Gary Fong diffuser) when shooting outdoors
No “strobe kit”. When I need to rent a studio, they come with the studio flash units I need and the rental is billed to the client
Which set of lights you choose for your first lighting set up has a lot more to do with your shoot location and style of shooting [who] fhotoace
Get the Alien Bees B800 2 light kit… plenty of power for the price. Check out their website
These are pretty much the entry level mid range strobes.
Or you can get the B400s if you’re going to be in a small studio enviorment [who] Sentimental Treasures Photo
