In Louisiana a license started being required less than 5 years ago. Check with your state commission that grants landscape contractor licenses as I am sure it’s different in every state. [who] pondlady

Most States have a quick guideline about Licensing. If you use low voltage (under 24v) you most likely won’t need any permits. It is set up for the Do It YourSelfer. You plug in a transformer to an existing 120 volt outlet. If you use 120v fixtures and pull power through out your yard then it would be wise to seek a pro. [who] glycopure

It depends on where you are from. In Georgia where I am from you must have a Low Voltage Contractor’s license. This license was enacted for the burglar alarm system contractors years ago and now includes low voltage landscape lighting and irrigation contractors.

You can find out whether your State requires a low voltage license by contacting the Secretary of States office. [who] Lakeside
