Not true about all fluorescent bulbs making you look bad. All fluorescents, including the energy saving PL spiral bulbs that replace the old incandescent bulbs, come in a range of colors including "warm white" which is a soft gold similar to regular bulbs or candlelight. I have them throughout my home, including in my bath mirror sconces. You can now get them in wattages that are as bright as a 150 watt incandescent but they only use about 20 to 30 watts. They do take a few seconds to a minute to reach full brightness so don't judge them until you've had them on for a a bit. If you go to the lamp departments in building centers like Home Depot they have displays that show the color differences. Everyone should be switching to these bulbs due to the energy savings that they achieve. I save $30 a month on my light bill due to having them in all the fixtures, plus they last 3 to 5 years.
You're correct to believe that flueroscent light should be avoided in decorating. Dim and romantic lighting can certainly add an element of mystery and sensuality, but warm, natural light from windows and skylights also bring out the best in skin tones.

If you're considering the lighting as part of your home decorating plans, you may want to take a look at the sources below which offer advice on lighting options for the home. [who]

Soft still light bulbs are the best for at home scenes, at parties then bright creamy light bulbs.
If it's a portrait, then soft light bulbs!

Hope I helped! [who]
