What kind of lighting and / or processing would I use to get a picture like this?

This seems like very difficult lighting to capture a subject in, with enough light in the foreground to light the subject, but also dark enough that it looks almost evening. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This looks a bit like ‘contre-jour’ or against the sun lighting. The sun is behind the subject, creating a backlit, or ‘rim’ light around their head.
The face of the subject (which would usually be in shadow, or even silhouetted) is then lit with a fill flash. In this it looks like the fill may be directly in front of the subject, as there’s no facial shadows.
Personally I would have tried to minimise the ambient a bit more by underexposing the background (its a bit too blown out for my liking) and then bringing up the subject to a nice exposure, with some soft directional shadow using an off camera flash in (probably) a softbox. [who] deep blue2
I agree with deep blue’s assessment, but will add one thing. The front fill could be the result of a reflector, not a fill flash. Similar results, but I didn’t notice a flash reflection in the subject’s eyes, which leads me to think reflector and not flash. [who] EE dude
