What part of the plant needs light to make it grow?
J C asked:
I’m going to hang a plant (some kind of trailing ivy) in my kitchen and as it grows I plan to trail it along my ceiling. My concern is that it won’t get enough light if I put it there. Right now the whole thing is in front of a window and so it gets light daily. If I move it to the kitchen, I can put the base of it infront of the window to get light but all the parts trailing around my kitchen won’t really get any light, So, does the new growth need light, just the base of the plants where the roots are or the whole thing? Thanks!
so, all the leaves or just the new growth?

How does light intensity increase the rate of photosynthesis?
vanderhausen asked:
I am doing an assignment (A2 level) on how increasing light intensity can increase the rate of photosynthesis.
I am aware of the light dependent and light independent reactions of photosynthesis and just wondered if anyone could give me any deeper scientific knowledge on why exactly light does increase the rate of photosynthesis, and why plants are still able to photosynthesise in small amounts of light.
(I know all about all the other limiting factors, I just need a little more depth on the lights effects)
Any information would be great.
Thanks.

What lighting should I use for a 55 gallon reef tank?
twkillingpack asked:
I am looking for the most cost effective lighting. I have a 55 gallon right now with a hood and standard flourescent bulbs. Is it possible I could just change the bulbs to special reef ones for around $30 at my local pet store or do I need to buy new fixtures. I am going to buy anenomes and jellylike looking plants. Any help would be great thanks!

Which plants will grow in an office under bad lighting?
Elegant Antagonist asked:
A tiny square cubical.
A computer screen.
A buzzing flourescent light hovering above and no window close by. Only the high ups get window desks.
What plants will survive under such harsh living conditions? Can I get a desk lamp of any kind that will improve the lighting situation?

What is the best lighting for a 20 gallon high w/ fish and plants?
Stacy asked:
Please be specific, suggesting brands would be really helpful, links also! I don’t really know much about lighting except it should be 5000-6700 or something like that. Also would coralife compact fluorescent bulbs work good for a planted 10 gallon?

What kind of lighting do I need for my fish tank?
jdecorse25 asked:
I have a 55gal saltwater tank w/2 true percula clowns and 1 volital lionfish. We want to start getting coral. We have the normal lighting that came with the kit. 2 All-glass 24″ Fluorescent bulbs (120volt, 19watt, 60hz). Will we need to change the whole hood, or can we just change the bulbs?
My question is how much wattage do I need in order to keep corals? Plants are not corals. Anenomes and stuff. My hood’s limit is 19 watts.
