The lamp doesn’t work, but before I go to Home Depot to pick up a new one, I want to make sure that the circuitry is still functional. What’s the easiest (and least painful:) way to check?

As the title states, I’m installing a standard track lighting system on my ceiling. It will be wired directly where a previously existing ceiling fan is located. I want it to be dimmable. My question is in the voltage and how I determine if I need a Magnetic Low Voltage Dimmer or a Electronic Low Voltage Dimmer? Which one will make a humming noise or give spikes in the dimming? Links would be great too. Thanks!

I have an emergency lighting unit on each floor of my building. The problem is that the boxes have no exit sign. Can I remove the cover and replace it with an exit sign? Would it fit? Are the boxes and signs standard sizes? If so I would buy the signs at home depot and have an electrician install them.

I am a poor college student, I can’t afford a lighting kit at the moment, so spare the advice about splurging on real equipment!

I bought some hardware clamp lights from home depot that I plan on using to light my subjects. I took plain, household light bulbs out of my sockets and they 1. aren’t bright enough and 2. give off a tint, even when I change with the white balance.

What type of bulbs should I purchase? I need something bright, white and cheap!
