How would I portray the following emotions using stage lighting?
Scarlett asked:
Shock
Fear
One character’s revelation
One character seeing a ghost no one else on stage sees

What effects and colours of lighting would I need to use?

What is this for exactly? Is this for a show or some class assignment?
It really depends on the situation within the script. I have to know what is going on within the text itself. I have to know where the characters are to determine the type of lighting that is called for in the script.
If this is just a what if scenario then you need to figure out the types of lighting you would use.
Are you going to use down lighting, special, back lighting, side lighting, color washes, gobos?
The choice of colors for lighting is determined again by the set, costumes and your actors. Is it a realistic set? Is the set minimalistic? ( Example: Evening scenes are usually cool colors, lavenders and blues).
I recommend looking up some pictures of lighting. Look up photos that display the emotions you are asking about. Pay close attention to the shadows and the highlights within the photo. Think of colors that you relate to what these emotions are. You need to answer this for yourself because everyone is different. This sounds like a design project. It is very important that you answer these questions because you will have to be able to answer them for yourself in the long run.
Look up images to use as references and go from there. [who] mamabee
