How much should it cost to hire someone to install recessed lighting?
ItsMe asked:
What would be the typical going rate and avg amount of hours to install recessed lighting in the living room and bedroom?
I can add that there is attic space to crawl through to do it… but its kinda tight up there, and I think they would have to cut through plywood (its a V shaped roof).

That depends on a few things. Here’s what an electrician will consider while working up a price.
Are the lights going to be installed in a ceiling that is accessable from above (attic)?
If the area is accessable is there plywood that will need to be removed to get to the desired fixture locations.
The electrician can use an “old work” cut in type fixture if there is no access. If he needs to use this type he will have to make some channels in the ceiling to run the wire. You will then have to patch and touch up paint. Sometimes you can remove crown molding and install the wire behind it. I would budget between $175.00 to $225.00 a fixture installed.
If there is an access above it should be pretty simple. [who] digger1616
i just hired a guy to do my recessed lighting. he charged me $35 / hr. they were ‘remodel’ lights tho. i think the job was pretty simple. for 6 lights fixtures, and texture and crown, it cost me about $600 parts included. [who] Grant
