How do I fit light shade with a hole that is bigger than light fitting?
magic_porridge_pot asked:
I bought a light shade for a ceiling light and when I tried to put it up – the hole in the middle of the shade was much bigger than the light fitting itself. The only way I could get it to stay up was to have the part with the hole balancing almost halfway down bulb. Surely that’s not right? If I had a thin energy saving bulb it would just fall off, it’s only because I have a normal bulb just now that it stays up.

I’ve seen light shades with a plastic adaptor ring in them. Seems yours is missing. Trip back to the shop. Probably best not to use light shade in the meantime – normal bulbs get quite hot! [who] Phillip B
How about something like a large but thin, washer make one out of thin tin then rest the shade on that when fitted to the fitting…just a thought. [who] Jeff 001
It looks like you have the wrong size. Return it and get one with a smaller opening. They have different sizes. [who] Steve P
You need a shade reducing ring. eg.
You should also be able to get them at market stalls/ high street lighting shops. [who] Pauline
