Outdoor Lighting and Music in the City?
I have a house in a major US City with a 3rd-floor outdoor deck that also allows access to the roof. These areas provide my only outdoor areas and excellent views of the city skyline, and thus are ideal for entertaining. The deck is small (about 10′ x10′), has an outdoor light, and has one outlet. The roof has no electrical outlets or lighting. I am trying to find ways, preferably permanent, to light and provide music to these spaces. Also I am a college student on a very tight budget so the cheaper the better. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

How much damage would a direct bolt of lighting do to you?
Me and my friend got in an argument. I said that if you got hit by lighting you would be seriously injured, if not dead. He said it would pass harmlessly through you, into the ground. I need to know which, if any, of us are right or wrong.

How is this indoor lighting effect created?
I was in a bedroom recently which had some type of lighting fixture built in- it produced a perfectly even strip of light glowing out from underneath a piece of molding. I’m wondering how this effect is achieved – is it fiber optic? The light was completely even and dimmable.

A tiny square cubical.
A computer screen.
A buzzing flourescent light hovering above and no window close by. Only the high ups get window desks.
What plants will survive under such harsh living conditions? Can I get a desk lamp of any kind that will improve the lighting situation?

Anyone know about lighting standards in apartment buildings?
I live in an apartment building which has 2 underground car parking areas. These parking areas, and the internal lobbies, are all lit day and night with the usual flourescent tubes. One of the owners here, has the bright idea of “saving us money” by turning off all the lobby lights during the day, and half of the car park lights at all times.
Apart from the obvious safety issues, I’m sure that there must be legal requirements for lighting, which the builders would have followed when putting up the place. Does anyone know how I could access these guidlelines ? I’ve tried Google, but not knowing quite what to ask for, I’m not getting much luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How can I recreate the recessed lighting effect?
I live in a rental and I love the reccesed lighting effect. I know I can recreate it with track lighting but I can only do so much with the wiring of my place. I would like to be able to do it as easy and quick as possible. I’m not allowed to drill holes or to make any changes to the place. Any Ideas?

What is the best outdoor lighting system to protect your house from burglars and crime?
How have you set up your outdoor lighting system? Including the garage lights and the lights you might have in your flower beds which “spotlight” your house. Any tips would be helpful as there is an increase in burglaries and car thefts in my area (our cars have been broken into 2x in our driveway). Please HELP!
P.S. We have car alarms but the thieves are pretty clever here, no alarms ever go off when cars are broken into. I don’t know how they do it, our cars are always locked & alarms off.
