J C asked:

I’m going to hang a plant (some kind of trailing ivy) in my kitchen and as it grows I plan to trail it along my ceiling. My concern is that it won’t get enough light if I put it there. Right now the whole thing is in front of a window and so it gets light daily. If I move it to the kitchen, I can put the base of it infront of the window to get light but all the parts trailing around my kitchen won’t really get any light, So, does the new growth need light, just the base of the plants where the roots are or the whole thing? Thanks!
so, all the leaves or just the new growth?

I have a ficus tree in my living room that i am afraid is not getting enough light. What kind of light can i use to give it an extra boost? I want a light i can get easily from like home depot or something, nothing too fancy or expensive. Maybe a compact fluorescent light? Halogen light? My ficus needs you!

1. First one is a cane, about 3 feet tall, I just tranplanted it into a pot. It says on the info card “indirect light only”. What does that mean? And how much water should I be giving it, on a daily or weekly basis?

2. Second one is a hanging plant with orange flowers, called “HB Goldfish”. It says “medium to high interior light levels”. So does that mean the plant doesn’t need sunlight, it only needs interior lights?? That seems strange? I’m not sure if I should be putting it in front of a window or just in a room with bright lights?

THanks for your help!!

this is for an ap bio planning lab. we wanna see how the spectrum of light affects plant growth, so we have a normal light bulb and a black (purple-ish) one. we could only afford fluorescent ones.
which plants are easy to keep alive with fluorescent lighting? we have to start with seeds, by the way.
