How do you fix a bent light socket after removing a broken light bulb?

Dominic W asked:

I removed a broken light bulb in a hanging light fixture but unfortunately bent the socket enough so a new light bulb will not screw in all the way. Is there a product that would screw in the socket to reshape it? Removing the socket looks nearly impossible the way the fixture is built and replacing the light fixture will be expensive.

How do I fit light shade with a hole that is bigger than light fitting?

I bought a light shade for a ceiling light and when I tried to put it up – the hole in the middle of the shade was much bigger than the light fitting itself. The only way I could get it to stay up was to have the part with the hole balancing almost halfway down bulb. Surely that’s not right? If I had a thin energy saving bulb it would just fall off, it’s only because I have a normal bulb just now that it stays up.

Can anyone help?

How to install a light switch and additional ceiling lights?

Tim asked:

I have a ceiling light with a pull chain in my attic. I want to add two additional ceiling lights with pull chains. I also want to add a switch so all three come on at once. I believe to do this, I can take the wire leading to the first light, wire the black and white to the switch, and the grown as well. Then run a new wire to the first light, and then to each subsequent light. Am I over simplifying?

Pregalicious Trophy Wife asked:

Pregnant and nesting, I’m bothered by our lack of efficient light switches. Our retard landlords turned the garage into a master bedroom before we moved in and did a frighteningly terrible job. No light switches ANYWHERE.

We have to cross the entire room in the dark to turn on the light, and I’ve hated it since we moved in. We do, however, have 4 outlets in the room- 1 of which I would like to hook up to a light switch. But how?

I’m no electrician- but I have installed my share of dimmer switches and fixtures and know how respect electricity. Thanks in advance for your advice!
I already have those lights that you turn on/off with a foot switch… it’s just an enormous hassle.

Just imagine- a prego dancing around in the dark searching for the switch, stepping on the cat, dirty laundry, tripping herself… it’s not a happy sight.

Installing Home Depot track lighting – Voltage Question?

007 asked:

As the title states, I’m installing a standard track lighting system on my ceiling. It will be wired directly where a previously existing ceiling fan is located. I want it to be dimmable. My question is in the voltage and how I determine if I need a Magnetic Low Voltage Dimmer or a Electronic Low Voltage Dimmer? Which one will make a humming noise or give spikes in the dimming? Links would be great too. Thanks!

I’m having a birthday party that is based off the video game BioShock, and I would like to have a lighting effect that appears that the room is underwater. You know when by a lit pool, at night, the light kind of reflects and moves with the ripples of the water? If that makes sense? I would really like to have that effect! Any suggestions or cool alternatives?

Is there a lighting fixture for the bathroom that can just be plugged in?

bigbaddave2001 asked:

My girlfriend says the lighting in our bathroom sucks, and I tend to agree. We are in a rental, so doing any kind of electrical work is out of the question. Is there some type of good bathroom lighting that comes with a cord to just plug it in? Perhaps a 3 bulb track lighting type thing? I’m electrically challenged, so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Can I install track lighting through an outlet?

arvin b asked:

I want to install track lighting in my apartment. Unfortunately, we don’t have an overhead fixture; I have an outlet on the ground that’s controlled by the light switch, made for standing lamps and such.

Are there track lights out there that work like a lamp, that can be connected by an outlet? I’m willing to put up with the power cable, I’d just have it hugging the corners.
