If light and sound are energy waves, are they the same energy but on different wavelengths?

cragoogle asked:

We see light energy waves with our eyes, and hear sound energy waves with our ears.

Light can be broken down into different wavelengths meaning we see different colours and can also be broken down into ultra violet and infra red; sound can be different wavelengths making different sounds and pitches.

They are both energy waves.

Are they the same energy broken down into different wavelengths resulting in us seeing that energy as light and sound?

How would I make a Light Show? And where can I buy light show equipment for a reasonable price? Please tell me because I am working on a room where my family and friends are supposed to get “locked” in and it has candle lights, black lights and strobes and even fog lights and I need them to sync to audio. I would like to have a setup where it can be computer controlled btw.

Rec asked:

when light enters a prism, does the sphape of the prism effect the direction light changes????

for example: light enters a glass that has a rectangular prism shape or light enters a glass that has a cone shape.
i also have that same thought because i was about thinking about the shape of a diamond. Too deep or too shallow will cause light to be not refracted as much.

How to install a light switch and additional ceiling lights?

Tim asked:

I have a ceiling light with a pull chain in my attic. I want to add two additional ceiling lights with pull chains. I also want to add a switch so all three come on at once. I believe to do this, I can take the wire leading to the first light, wire the black and white to the switch, and the grown as well. Then run a new wire to the first light, and then to each subsequent light. Am I over simplifying?

What type of light bulb produces the clearest light?

I’m really sick of the yellow tint that incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs have, and am looking for something that produces clear white light. LED lights are clear, but a bulb full of those is really expensive. Does anyone know about halide lights, or another type of light?

How to install light switch to turn on wall outlet?

Pregalicious Trophy Wife asked:

Pregnant and nesting, I’m bothered by our lack of efficient light switches. Our retard landlords turned the garage into a master bedroom before we moved in and did a frighteningly terrible job. No light switches ANYWHERE.

We have to cross the entire room in the dark to turn on the light, and I’ve hated it since we moved in. We do, however, have 4 outlets in the room- 1 of which I would like to hook up to a light switch. But how?

I’m no electrician- but I have installed my share of dimmer switches and fixtures and know how respect electricity. Thanks in advance for your advice!
I already have those lights that you turn on/off with a foot switch… it’s just an enormous hassle.

Just imagine- a prego dancing around in the dark searching for the switch, stepping on the cat, dirty laundry, tripping herself… it’s not a happy sight.

What are the light intensities of each wavelength of sunlight?

jamie e asked:

I, like many others at the moment, have been set a peice of work to plan an investigation into how light intensity of a bulb emmitting similar light to sunlight (specialist bulb for growing plants) changes at its different wavelengths. I would very much appreciate it if someone could find for me a table or graph with a number of wavelengths in nm, and their corresponding intensities in kW/m2/s or similar, for sunlight. Also, if anyone has any more general tips for how to conduct the experiment, I would be very pleased to hear them. My plan so far is simply to use filters to get light of a specific wavelengths and then use a multimeter to measure the resistance of an LDR near to the light, as an indication of light intensity of that wavelength. Most important thing though, is to get a table/graph of some preknown values. Thanks very much.

inca_aztec_maya asked:

I was just in Vegas and Laughlin, NV. The MGM Grand (I think) and the Tropicana Express in Laughlin have the entire exterior of the building illiuminated. How do they do this and still hide the source of the light and how are they able to make the light spread so evenly as to almost make the building look as if it were painted by light?

Lastly, do you know where I can buy these lights to use on my home? Any online DYI plans?

Thanks

gonzldjfwrrr asked:

We have a set of fluorescent lights in our kitchen. When we throw the switch: Sometimes they immediately light up. Sometimes they light up after a time. Sometimes they never light up at all. It seems they are taking longer and longer to light up. What should I do to have them light up when I turn them on?

wondering asked:

I just replaced my regular light bulbs with cfl’s in an effort to do my part in protecting the environment. But I’m feeling really conflicted now, because the cfl light is just horrible, and makes all the warm colors in my apartment look dull and washed-out. Is there a way to make the light look more like the light from a regular light bulb?? Please help. Thanks.
